Bocce in Marin!

Bocce in Marin!

Fortunately, theMarinGuide has friends who regularly ferret out nutty things to do in Marin, such as play bocce ball.

Here's the report from one such friend, about his recent Sunday afternoon outing to The Marin Bocce Federation:

It was a total blast -- and, suffice to say, quite liesurely (pretty much the perfect Sunday afternoon activity in my book).  For most, it's probably largely just a good excuse to hang out with a bunch of friends outside and drink beer -- although I gather some people do, in fact, take it somewhat seriously.  Evidence - there was a tournament going on in some of the lanes when we were there.

In terms of the place itself, you can bring your own food and alcohol, and I think they also sell stuff.  Since there were a fair number of people in our party, we brought several large coolers.  Despite expectations that we'd be comingling with a bunch of old men in straw hats, it was quite multi-age, with lots of families and all sorts of folks playing.  Reserving a lane is $17/hour (so not cheap), but if you just show up on the fly without reserving anything, I believe it's just $3/person (a good choice on a not-so-busy day).
