Novato
Marin's northernmost town, Novato is a good stepping point to the Marin Coast, Napa, and Sonoma Wine Countries. With its newer housing developments bumping up against thousands of acres open space and open roads, Novato provides plenty of room for outdoor enthusiasts to get their biking/hiking/horseback riding/golfing/motorcycling fix.
Novato is a bit spread out among several exits off 101, with chain stores and office complexes visible from the highway. Get off the highway to find Novato's more charming town center and lush neighborhoods.
