Fairfax

A quirky universe of its own, Fairfax is both physically and metaphorically, closer to farmland, than freeway.  Still just 25 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, Fairfax is mercifully removed from the bustle of neighboring towns. As Sir Francis Drake winds away from HWY 101 and drops you into Fairfax, theres a sense that you've been transported to another time.  Surrounded by hills and endless trails, Fairfax is more like a mountain village or summer retreat.

During the week, Fairfax is pretty sleepy. Those who don't have to commute to the city stay tucked in among the hills, wandering down to town to frequent local coffee shops, an organic grocery, and kid-friendly parks and playgrounds.  Wednesday nights in the summer, the local farmer's market brings out the town, with local produce, prepared foods and live entertainment.

On weekend mornings, bicyclists descend upon the town and at night, the streets start to fill with those in search of local music and entertainment at the town's great local bars and movie house.
